Since the devastating battle in the catacombs, the Avatar and his friends have fled from Ba Sing Se, but the Fire Nation siblings were quick to continue their pursuit of them. Chased by Princess Azula, Prince Zuko and their cronies, the friends were driven into a strange mass of clouds that seemed to appear out of nowhere. With Appa unable to see, they descended from the skies to land in a dark, misty forest. The tree trunks are grey and thick with numorous knots, their branches seagreen and leafy, hanging to the ground in resemblance to willow trees. They have ended up in Wispy Willows, a forest with a strong connection to the Spirit World. The trees whisper endlessly into their victim's ears, in voices audible only to the one meant for them to hear. Most people are driven insane within a matter of days, while they are searching hopelessly for a way out. In addition to the risk of losing sanity, the face-stealing spirit Koh resides in these woods--and now he has the Avatar right where he wants him, and only Aang can see this terrifying creature. Meanwhile, outside of the forest enveloped by grey clouds, their chasers get tired of waiting, and might foolishly venture inside with intentions to capture the Avatar.

A young waterbender of fourteen years slowly regained consiousness ons the cold, muddy ground of a dark forest. At first, she couldn't remember where she was or how she got there but a soft wind rustled the leaves of a weeping willow and it all came rushing back.
"AANG!" Katara shouted desperately as she practicly flew off the ground. "SOKKA! TOPH!" She tried to move but found she couldn't lift her feet, she was upto her shins in mud. "Ick.." Swirling her hands around her body, Katara bent the water in the mud and freed herself. The quiet moment after she finished was shattered by movement coming from behind the nearby willow. Hands automaticly reaching for her water skin, the waterbender quietly moved through the leaves and jumpe behind the tree, prepared to fight, only to discover nothing was there.
She shook her head and continued her search for her friends, calling their names every so often.
